Some big changes have been announced today (Monday the 26th of September) as Thailand eases Covid rules for many international travellers and the destination opens up to further exciting holidays.

On Friday the 30th of September, Thailand will finally end the nationwide emergency decree that has been in place for the majority of the Covid pandemic. This comes in an announcement from the Centre of Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) of Thailand alongside the ease of Thailand Covid rules for international visitors.

According to the announcement, Thailand will reclassify Covid-19 as a “communicable disease under surveillance” where it was previously classified as a “dangerous communicable disease”. This change will go into action on Saturday with 1st of October.

Thailand has also stated it will extend the period of stay to 45 days instead of 30 days for travellers from countries that have been approved for visa exemption. This will be extended to 30 days instead of 15 days for all travellers eligible for a Visa on Arrival (VOA) as well.

Many travellers and businesses alike are celebrating as Thailand eases Covid rules, with international visitors to the destination no longer required to provide proof of full vaccination or a negative ATK test taken pre-departure from October 1st (more details on entry rules are expected to be released on the Foreign Travel Advice page in the coming days).

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) stated that the end of the emergency decree that had been in place since the 25th of March 2020 will also result in the CCSA being dissolved, plus all regulations, announcements, and orders issued by the government of Thailand under this decree will be revoked.

“The kingdom entered the stage of fully reopening from 1 July, 2022 with the removal of the Thailand Pass registration scheme, and foreign nationals only be required to show proof of vaccination or a negative test result within 72 hours of travel, this will be lifted from 1 October, 2022, onwards,” said the TAT.
