The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) are a department of the UK government system. They work in international affairs tackling global challenges, and protect the UK’s security while promoting British interests and values.
They have offices and staff all over the world working on the development and international presence of Britain. They were only established in September 2020, originally forming two separate departments known as the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and the Department for International Development (DFID).
Though the departments were merged recently, for the purposes of strengthening and uniting over specific issues, the FCO was a solo department for a long time, known as the Foreign Office.
In this specific element, the FCDO is dedicated to the interests of the British citizens overseas. This includes our national security, our prosperity, and supporting us in whatever manner necessary when overseas.
The FCDO deal with the legal state of international travel for the UK at any given time. In our current pandemic state, for example, they inset the law against international travel that holds until more is known on the state of the traffic light system, and vaccine passports.
