The tourism sector in and out of Malaysia was very excited for the announcement that the Malaysia borders will be open to travellers again from the 1st of April.

This news has come at the same time as the news that Malaysia will be transitioning to an endemic stage of the Covid pandemic. Through this they are looking to give a big boost to the travel and tourism sector with foreign travellers finally allowed back in.

After nearly two years of their borders being closed, the aviation sector is thrilled to hear this news. The Foreign Travel Advice page will be updated closer to April 1st when the borders will reopen, so travellers can check preparations when they book ahead for the holiday in Malaysia.

After April 1st, the travel rules for arrivals in Malaysia will be as follows:

  • Fully vaccinated travellers will not have to quarantine upon arrival as long as they follow these rules:
    1. They provide evidence of a negative PCR test taken within 48 hours pre-departure; and
    2. They take a rapid antigen test within 24 hours of arrival in Malaysia.
  • All travellers will need to complete a pre-departure travel form
  • MyTravelPass permits are no longer required.

Daniel Bainbridge, the regional director of Malaysia Airlines UK and Europe, said, “We are thrilled to hear we now have an official date for the full reopening of Malaysia’s borders across all its destinations, which has been long-awaited by all.

“As the only airline to fly non-stop from London to Kuala Lumpur, we look forward to welcoming passengers onboard and helping them discover the diverse flora and fauna, glorious beaches, tantalising cuisines and vibrant cities of Malaysia.

“We have been preparing for this significant milestone for a long time and have already increased our flight capacity to provide better connections across Malaysia and onwards to south-east Asia and Australasia.”

The excitement among the travel industry is fantastic to see surrounding the Malaysia borders open, and we anticipate some great new holidays to Malaysia to come following April’s beginning.
