PTS invites members to join tech advisory board after CEO admits to mistake

Protected Trust Services is planning to launch an advisory board with ‘at least’ 10 agents and suppliers to advise it on how to improve its technology for members.

CEO Dan Landen admitted that the tech-based business had made a mistake in not consulting members prior to starting the build of its live booking system 18 months ago.

“We were a bit arrogant. It was a mistake,” he told 100 of its members at its conference last week. “Over time, we stopped listening [to you] and that was a mistake.”

He said the ultimate goal was for PTS to have a live booking system, but added: “We have not achieved it yet. We have spent 18 months building the system, it was quite a tough thing to realise…we are at a turning point now.”

He said the system, which will allow members to make online bookings with selected suppliers, reducing some admin, was ‘85% built’.

“But it’s the last 15% that will make all the difference,” said Dan. “We hope to have it all up and running by the end of the year.

Dan said technology will likely be the ‘biggest focus’ for PTS over the next three years, when it will ‘probably’ spend an additional £300,000 a year.

“The requirements of you guys have outgrown our knowledge,” Dan told the conference, held at The Belfry Hotel & Resort.

He said the advisory panel, which he hopes to launch in April, will help inform PTS on members’ technology needs.

Volunteers will have to commit to a year of their time to join the panel, which Dan said would probably meet once a quarter.
