Wonderful news came out for the travel industry on December 31st 2021 when it was announced that Germany will ease restrictions for fully vaccinated UK travellers from January 4th. This is a fantastic start to the new year, allowing those who are fully vaccinated or those who have an important reason to enter Germany.

These changes were announced on Thursday the 30th of December on the German Embassy website stating that the UK were no longer classified as an area of variants of concern. This is great news and it’s hopeful to see the previous ban resolved so swiftly after it was out in place against UK travellers on December 19th

The statement by the German Embassy read, “with effect from 0:00 hours CET on Tuesday 4 January 2022, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland will be classified as a high-risk area. This will result in changes to the entry regulations (ban on carriage and entry to be lifted).

“This means, among other things, that people who are fully vaccinated or who have an important reason for travelling will also be allowed to enter Germany. In addition, people who are fully vaccinated will not need a negative Covid test to enter the country, nor will they need to quarantine for 14 days on entry.”

This means that from January 4th vaccinated travellers will no longer need to test, quarantine, or isolate in order to enter Germany and will only need to provide proof of vaccination, with the last dose administered at least 14 days pre-departure. Unvaccinated or partially vaccinated arrivals will be allowed to enter with an important reason.

Though the Foreign Travel Advice page has not yet been updated, this will come soon, so as always we highly advise that consumers keep an eye on the FCDO page to say up to date on the requirements for travel to a destination. Or, if you’d like reassurance, you can contact your trusted travel agent who will be able to confirm what you’ve read.

Germany is a fantastic destination year-round for UK travellers and we are delighted to see that it will be opening up again this new year.
