The United States announced this week that all Covid-related vaccine entry rules for international travellers to the country will be removed beginning next week.

In the US, the vaccine entry rule was introduced in January of 2021 and required that all travellers to the US show evidence of their full vaccination status again Covid. This rule was set in the midst of the pandemic over two years ago. Since then, many destinations have revoked their vaccine entry rules among others, and the US followed suit in part, but not in full until this week.

On Monday the 1st of May, the White House and US President Joe Biden declared that the current Public Health Emergency set to expire on the 11th of May would not be extended. This means that all vaccine entry rules concerning Covid for international travellers will be ended on the 12th of May.

Many travel businesses that specialise in travel to the US for all sorts of travellers have expressed their excitement and anticipation for what will come from the removal of the vaccine entry rules to the US. It is believed by many that this will be another great boost to the travel industry following the Covid pandemic. Though this news has not yet been updated on the Foreign Travel Advice page, it will soon be reflected for all UK travellers to access.

The statement issued by the White House on the 1st of May said, “Today, we are announcing that the administration will end the COVID-19 vaccine requirements for federal employees, federal contractors, and international air travellers at the end of the day on May 11, the same day that the COVID-19 public health emergency ends.”

The removal of vaccine entry rules was reflected in a statement by the Homeland Security Department, which stated that, from Friday the 12th of May, international travellers not from the US via land ports of entry and ferries will no longer be required to provide evidence of a full course of the Covid vaccine in order to enter the country.
