In a government meeting on the 10th of February, a decision was announced by Spain to ease restrictions for children from Monday the 14th of February.

Along with many other destinations, Spain has made the decision to relax some restrictions after the wave of Omicron has settled as a dominant strain and been studied around the world. They have also selected to follow some of the EU set rules surrounding vaccination status and restrictions for non-EU countries.

On the 14th of February, Spain will ease restrictions specifically for children between the ages of 12 and 17. These will go as follows:

  • All 12–17-year-olds must EITHER:
    – Be fully vaccinated; or
    – Provide evidence of a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours pre-departure.

All children under 12 years of age will be exempt from restrictions for unvaccinated travellers and will be treated as fully vaccinated arrivals. The requirements to qualify as fully vaccinated for all arrivals to Spain over the age of 17 are:

  • Have proof of a full course of an approved vaccination programme. The final dose must have been administered at least 14 days prior to travel and at most 270 days prior to travel.
  • If the final dose of the full course was administered over 270 days prior to travel, the arrival must have had their booster at least 14 days prior to travel to qualify as fully vaccinated.

Reyes Maroto, Spain’s tourism minister, said, “As one of the world’s favourite tourism destinations, we are committed to making travel to Spain a safe and easy experience for our visitors, especially for families travelling with children.

“We hope that with these changes, many families will choose Spain to enjoy safe and memorable holidays together.”

As always, we recommend keeping up to date on any other destination requirements on the Foreign Travel Advice page so you can stay informed on any changes as and when they happen, and you can travel with complete peace of mind.

It is fantastic to see such a popular destination for UK travellers like Spain ease restrictions in time for some great holidays, and we look forward to all the fun getaways to come.
