Official media sources have announced that Morocco will lift the flight ban on travellers entering the country from February 7th.

According to official MAP news agency reports, the Moroccan government have decided to lift the flight ban on entries to the country. This ban was originally put in place on the 29th of November last year to protect against the spread of the Omicron strain of Covid.

Though the ban was originally supposed to end on December 31st, it was further extended into January. However, Morocco has now announced the ban will be lifted in February, which is excellent news.

“This decision comes in accordance with the legal provisions relating to the management of the state of health emergency and following the recommendations of the scientific and technical commission and taking into consideration the evolution of the epidemiological situation in the Kingdom,” MAP said.

Currently, the travel requirements to Morocco once they lift the flight ban will be as follows:

  • Arrivals must provide proof of a complete course of vaccination
  • Arrivals must provide evidence of a negative PCR test taken within 24 hours of departure to Morocco.

However, MAP reported that new entry requirements to follow the lift of the flight ban are to be announced at a later date. The FCDO currently reflects the requirements as of December 29 when the ban was extended, but we encourage consumers to keep an eye on the Foreign Travel Advice page for updates on these requirements leading up to February 7th.

It is fantastic news to hear more destinations beginning to open to travellers again after the unexpected turn when Omicron first emerged. Now that we have a great understanding of the new variant and it has become a dominant strain in places such as the UK, travel can resume with lighter precautions.

After the news that arrivals in the UK will no longer need to take any tests as long as they are fully vaccinated, the reintroduction of some great destinations, such as Morocco, is exciting for travellers and travel businesses alike, all ready to get going with some awesome, stress-free holidays to come.
