After a stellar week of travel updates last week, there is even more good news. On Friday, October 8th, the FCDO lifted their advice against all but essential travel on 51 more destinations.
These are all destinations that are on the Rest of the World travel list already. This means that travellers will be able to book holidays to these destinations from the 8th with easier access to travel insurance cover since most travel insurance will not cover against FCDO advice. This is on top of the Rest of the World restrictions, which, for vaccinated travellers, only consist of a day-2 PCR test on return (soon to be a lateral flow test).
This is coming after the great announcement of 42 countries leaving the red list, which went into action on Monday the 11th of October. Plus, this is only a couple of days after 32 countries had the FCDO advice removed, adding up to a great 83 destinations now FCDO advice free (you can check the FCDO advice on the Foreign Travel Advice page).
Friday the 8th the advice was lifted for these countries:
- Côte d’Ivoire
- Western Sahara
Monday the 11th, the advice has been lifted for these countries:
- Cape Verde
- Democratic Republic of the Congo
- Costa Rica
- Myanmar (Burma)
- Sierra Leone
- South Africa
- Trinidad and Tobago
Seeing the destination restrictions and conflicts simplified is fantastic for the travel industry and consumers alike. Though travellers could already travel to these destinations, having the FCDO advice lifted removes any confusion and makes it easier for travellers to purchase good travel insurance.
This is wonderful progress for UK travel and gives us hope that we can continue to open to the rest of the world in this way moving into 2022. Having the destination’s restrictions to consider as the main factor of travel during Covid will make travel much more affordable and seem much less daunting.
